My Story

Hi, I’m Bradley Newton Wicks, and my story begins in the Eastern Cape, where I grew up in the small town of Stutterheim, also known as Cumakala. My days were pretty much dedicated to climbing trees and playing in the dirt, but some of my best memories are of watching my dad play Half-Life, Crysis, and Bioshock before school. Watching my dad performing these insane actions on the screen and the stories the games told fascinated me, and I needed MORE.

During my school years, I played tons of games, but there was one that really moved me, and that game is Dark Souls 3, which taught me to persevere and keep pushing forward to claim victory over impossible odds. This lesson changed my perspective on everything, and it solidified my future path. I decided to focus on IT to learn the fundamentals of programming so that I could become a video game programmer.

After matriculating, I went on to study game design at Vega. Over the span of the course, I discovered that my creative and artistic side was not a waste. From playing guitar all the way to painting, these skills transferred and reflected into the Game Design process. I am able to bridge creative and technical roles and with this skill set, I have been able to assist the artists, collaborate with the developers and design the games in every team I’ve been a part of. I bring a “jack-of-all-trades” approach to my teams.

I have countless game ideas and the drive to bring them to life, creating experiences that connect with players the way games connected with me.
